Facing DUI charge

A woman will be arraigned today in Girard Municipal Court after reportedly crashing her car after driving over an embankment near the parking lot of Walmart on Goldie Road on Friday.

Catherine Powers, 68, of Youngstown is charged with driving under the influence, driving without a valid license and violating the open-container law.

Police responded to the scene of the crash and reported Powers smelled of alcohol and had glassy eyes. Powers declined to take a blood-alcohol-content test, but police reported she failed a series of field-sobriety tests.

Powers had a mixed alcoholic drink in a plastic cup in her car, according to a police report.

Impaired-driving cases

BOARDMAN

Township police made several impaired-driving arrests over the weekend.

Police arrested Raymond Kennedy, 38, of Oswego, N.Y., on Friday at South Avenue and U.S. Route 224 on charges of failure to stop after an accident on private property, driving under suspension and operating a vehicle while impaired after he purportedly struck a shopping-cart return at Giant Eagle on Doral Drive.

Police arrested Landon Deflorville, 24, of Leetonia, on Interstate 680 Saturday with speeding, a marked-lanes violation, OVI and OVI with a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration.

On Sunday, township police arrested Lillian Rosado, 38, of Youngstown, on OVI and impeding traffic charges after they reportedly found her sleeping at the wheel on South Avenue near Midlothian Boulevard.

Police arrested Nick Kropolinsky, 47, of Erskine Avenue, on Market Street on charges of OVI and failure to drive in marked lanes.

Woman found, is OK

YOUNGSTOWN

A woman who friends say was taken by her boyfriend about 10:40 p.m. Sunday was found and is doing well, a police spokesman said.

The woman’s friends said her boyfriend came to a house on West Dennick Avenue, and she went to his van to get her purse when the man pulled her inside and drove off, reports said.

One of the people at the home said the woman was texting the man before and that she knew he was coming over.

The spokesman would not say where the woman was found but an investigation is taking place, he said.

Man faces drug charges

LIBERTY

A man is charged with trafficking in crack cocaine and possession of heroin after a traffic stop near Holly Avenue Sunday morning.

Police stopped Kevin Johnson, 24, of Youngstown for driving under suspension, according to a police report. Johnson smelled of alcohol and marijuana, and shouted derogatory remarks at officers.

After being told he was under arrest, Johnson went into a nearby apartment complex on Holly Avenue before he was handcuffed, police said.

Police searched Johnson and found five small bags of suspected crack cocaine in his pocket, according to the report.

Police later found another small bag of suspected crack cocaine and a small bag of suspected heroin in the back of the police cruiser where Johnson was held. Police video footage shows Johnson throwing the two bags out of his pocket while in the cruiser, police reported.

Johnson was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on Sunday. He also is charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

He was on parole for a felony drug-possession charge at the time of his arrest, police said.

Jailed in violence case

GIRARD

A man is facing a domestic-violence charge after police responded to a Morris Avenue home Sunday morning. Witnesses at the home reported that Jermaine Kuhar, 36, of Girard had pushed a woman around inside the home and had broken property including a door frame. A police report states Kuhar was “belligerent” when officers arrived. The report notes three children were inside a bedroom with a broken door frame. Blood was smeared on the door of the bedroom, according to the report.

Kuhar was booked into the Trumbull CountyJail on Sunday and held without bond.

Felony domestic violence

GIRARD

A man was arraigned Monday in Girard Municipal Court on a third-degree felony domestic-violence charge.

Michael Lecroy, 32, of Girard is alleged to have struck a woman in the face, punched her in the arm and kicked her in the hip Friday morning during an argument in an East Main Street home. A police report notes the woman had a split lip and exhibited swelling on her hip and arm.

Lecroy was in the Trumbull County Jail until his arraignment. His case is set for a preliminary hearing Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Relay for Life event

CAMPBELL

Campbell City Schools will show their support for the American Cancer Society by participating in Relay for Life’s “Paint the World Purple” day Friday. Staff members who make a $5 donation to Relay for Life will be permitted to wear casual purple clothing Friday. Students, who otherwise wear uniforms, will be permitted to wear purple tops. Students also will learn facts about cancer, including facts about risk and prevention.
