Police arrested two people and cited three other people over the weekend on drug charges.

Tyron Scott, 19, of Glenmont Avenue, is in the Mahoning County jail $15,000 bond after his arraignment Monday in municipal court before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a charge of possession of heroin.

Scott was arrested about 2:10 a.m. Monday, after officer Robert DiMaiolo spotted a rental car he was driving pull into the drive of a vacant home in the 800 block of Cornell Avenue. Scott then got out of the car and ran toward the back of a nearby home, reports said.

When DiMaiolo shined a light behind the home, Scott came out with his hands up. When officers searched where Scott had run to, officer Jacob Short found a bag of suspected heroin in the bushes, reports said. There was more than $2,100 in the car and several cellphones that were ringing “nonstop,” reports said.

Assistant Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno told the magistrate Scott has a pending drug charge after being arrested by Boardman police. Court records show Scott was arrested Jan. 4 on a felony charge of tampering with evidence and misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs and obstructing official business.

Sertick said two drug arrests in less than a month, plus the large amount of cash and phones found in the car he was driving, called for a significant bond.

Chere Clinton, 28, of Masury, was taken to the jail about 11:10 p.m. Friday after a car she was a passenger in was pulled over on Cleveland Avenue for failing to signal for a turn.

Reports said when an officer approached the car, she dropped a bag of suspected crack cocaine on the floor, and when she was taken out of the car, there was a bag of suspected crack underneath her legs.

Clinton was arraigned in municipal court on a charge of possession of crack cocaine. Sertick set her bond at $5,000.

About 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Richard Balik, 32, of Pulaski, Pa., was cited with driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia; and Stacy Cantrell, 28, of Boardman, was cited with possessing drug-abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia after a car Balik was driving was pulled over in a 1231 Market St. parking lot for a malfunctioning break light.

Reports said Balik told officers right away that his license was suspended in Pennsylvania, and when he got out of the car to be written a citation, a crack pipe was found on the floor board near the driver’s seat. When Cantrell was taken out of the car, she told police she had a needle and a crack pipe and she gave the items to police, reports said. They were both issued citations and given a court date.

About 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Amanda Larson, 34, of Albert Street, was cited with possessing a drug-abuse instrument after an officer pulled over a truck she was a passenger in at Logan and Halleck avenues for making an improper turn. Reports said an officer spotted the truck leaving a known drug house at Ohio and Dennick avenues.

Reports said Larson kept reaching under a pillow in the truck, and she was taken out when the driver gave consent to have the truck searched. Reports said the officer found a used syringe underneath the seat where Larson was sitting.

Larson also had a warrant from Hubbard police, so she was taken to Hubbard and turned over to an officer there, reports said.
