Playhouse drops ‘Guys and Dolls’ and adds ‘Forum’

Due to a new restriction on the performance rights, the Youngstown Playhouse has dropped its scheduled production of “Guys and Dolls.”

Instead, it will produce the Stephen Sondheim comedy “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” in the same time slot: May 13-15 and 19-21.

“Forum” was originally chosen to end the theater’s 90th anniversary season (2014-15) but the Playhouse was unable to secure the rights at that time. It will be directed by Dennis Henneman, with choreography by Joanna Andrei and musical direction by Nancy Wolfgang. John Pecano will design the set and Ellie DiCiero will design and create the costumes.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. May 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and May 15 at 2:30 p.m. For tickets, go to eyoungstownplayhouse.com or call the box office at 330-788-8739.
