YSU doctoral candidates to vote on graduation regalia

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Students earning doctoral degrees at Youngstown State University are being asked to vote on the caps and gowns they will wear at commencement.

The YSU College of Graduate Studies, with the support of Provost Martin Abraham, is in the process of adopting special academic regalia to be worn by doctoral candidates starting with the spring commencement this May.

Sal Sanders, dean of the YSU College of Graduate Studies, said a committee was formed to create various versions of regalia, and those options were narrowed to three by the Academic Events Committee of the YSU Academic Senate.

Sanders said he is going to email illustrations of the three choices to all doctoral candidates. The cap and gown getting the most votes will be adopted. Voting deadline is Sunday.

YSU offers the doctor of education, doctor of physical therapy and doctor of philosophy degree.
