Christmas services at Holy Trinity

YOUNGSTOWN

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 39 Laird Ave., follows the Julian calendar and will observe Christmas Eve on Friday with Christmas matins and blessing of the yule log at 6 p.m.

On Christmas Day, Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Divine Liturgy will take place at 10 a.m.

Synaxis of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be observed during Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Jan. 8 and Divine Liturgy of St. Archdeacon Stephen will take place at 9 a.m. Jan. 9.

Blessing of Waters service scheduled

YOUNGSTOWN

The Blessing of the Waters service is planned at 3 p.m. Friday on the shore of Lake Glacier in Mill Creek MetroParks by Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of Mahoning Valley.

Metropolitan Savas will participate in the service. He oversees the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh, a diocese serving West Virginia, eastern and central Ohio and Pennsylvania except for Philadelphia. His Eminence will make a pastoral visit to St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church in Boardman earlier in the day.

The service marks the Feast of Holy Theophany, the baptism of Jesus.

The Rev. Thomas Constantine, organizer, said he and other pastors have Blessing of the Waters services at their individual churches but wanted to share it as a community service. The blessed water is used in the blessing of homes, another custom.

Lutheran cluster

Mahoning County Lutheran Cluster will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive, for day of Epiphany worship.

The Rev. Rebecca Zielke, pastor of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield, will preach.

Jewish/Christian

LIBERTY

Jewish/Christian Studies/North will focus on important values and connection to Sinai during a program Wednesday at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way.

The group gathers at 12:30 p.m. with the study at 1. A video presentation by Emory University theology department will focus on Jewish-Christian traditions.

Living Bread Radio names new director

Living Bread Radio Network, AM 1060, 94.5 FM and 89.5 FM, has named Michael Roberts as director of communications.

Roberts has been a familiar voice on the network since 2013. He is the host of “Catholic Challenge,” a quiz show, and “Around the Town,” a show that highlights area events.

Roberts will continue as an on-air personality and host while being involved in production, marketing and communication.

Living Bread Radio Network is Northeast Ohio’s Catholic radio station and reaches Mahoning County.
