Poland to purchase precious art trove

WARSAW, Poland

Poland’s Culture Ministry has signed a deal to buy a precious private art collection that includes a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, acting to ensure that it would remain part of Poland’s patrimony for further generations.

The collection includes some 86,000 objects, among them da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermine” and Rembrandt’s “Landscape with the Good Samaritan.” The collection, which also includes some 250,000 books and other library items, has been housed in the private Czartoryski Museum in the southern Polish city of Krakow.

Piotr Glinski, the culture minister and deputy prime minister, said Thursday that the state had signed the agreement to buy the collection from the Princes Czartoryski Foundation.

Caffe Lena opened in May 1960, and has hosted many of folk music’s biggest names, including Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie and Don McLean.

The concerts had taken place at other venues after renovation began in June.

Trey Songz arrested

DETROIT

Police say singer Trey Songz has been arrested for throwing microphones and speakers from the stage during a performance at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

The Detroit Police Department says Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, was arrested Wednesday night after the show.

Police spokesman Officer Dan Donakowski says Songz became “upset and belligerent” after he was told he had to end his concert and leave the stage at 11:30 p.m. A police sergeant was struck in the head by an object tossed from the stage.

Songz faces destruction of property and resisting and obstructing charges.
