Boardman High School’s Emerging Leaders club invited Veterans from the Commons Assisted Living to have lunch at the school on Veterans day Nov. 11.

Upon arrival, the Veterans were greeted with overwhelming applause as they walked into the cafeteria and given a standing ovation from everyone in the room. Throughout the lunch, the students asked questions relating to service spent in both WW2 and Korea. Both faculty and students gave their thanks to the Veterans, making them feel appreciated. To further honor the Veterans, the schools choir sang “The National Anthem,” which touched everyone’s hearts.

Jack Poteet, a Veteran who resides at The Commons had another reason to feel special. Poteet is a 1939 graduate of Boardman and it is the first time he has been at the high school since it has been moved from what is now Center Middle School, where Poteet attended. Soon after Poteet graduated, feeling his obligation to his country, he enlisted in the Marines and left for Paris Island, S. C., to begin his training. Poteet’s service in WW2 continued until 1945, the year he came back home to Boardman.
