McGuffey student dies suddenly

YOUNGSTOWN
A Youngstown fourth-grade student died suddenly over Christmas break.
Cathy Dorbish, principal of William Holmes McGuffey Elementary, said those in the school, including herself, who knew Marcus Lee, son of McGuffey educational assistant Raenell Javon Allen, have a heavy heart.
“He was just the sweetest young man,” Dorbish said.
Marcus spent his time at McGuffey from preschool through his current fourth grade.
Because of his longtime residency in the school, Dorbish said extra counselors will be on hand to assist students and faculty in coping with Marcus’ death.
The cause of death has not been determined, according to the Mahoning County Coroner’s office.
“The kids are very close in his classroom – they’ve been together for years,” she said.
Dorbish said administrators will be making calls home soon and will be available as well as the counselors to help one another through this difficult time.
“I think at McGuffey, we all are much better for having him in our lives,” she said.
Marcus’s family is asking for anyone who is able to donate to www.gofundme.com/35nfwq8 to help cover funeral costs.
Dorbish said she plans to put together an auction to assist the family with financial needs.
Marcus leaves behind his mother and two sisters.
