Warren Fire Department asks state Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate suspicious fire
Staff report
WARREN
The Warren Fire Department has asked the state fire marshal’s office to investigate a 12:58 p.m. Tuesday fire that destroyed a house at 350 Homewood Ave. SE.
Ken Nussle, Warren fire chief, said the home was vacant but had a value of about $35,000, and it appeared that an accelerant may have been used.
When firefighters entered the first floor of the home, that area “ignited” to such a degree that it appeared an accelerant might have been used, Nussle said.
A neighbor also indicated that he had a videotape that might help with the investigation, Nussle said.
It also appeared that there were holes in the floor, so a decision was made to withdraw and fight the fire from the outside, the chief said.
No one was injured.
