POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty, Hubbard, city of Canfield and Austintown:

GIRARD

Dec. 17

Menacing: A Maple Avenue girl told officers a male posted on a social-media site threats indicating she would be beaten up.

Dec. 18

Harassment: A Trumbull Avenue man said his former girlfriend has engaged in a pattern of making and sending him such calls and text messages.

Theft: A Mohawk Drive woman reported her stolen automated-teller-machine card was used without authorization at one or two Cleveland-area banks.

Dec. 19

Assault: A man in the 10 block of South Elruth Court alleged his girlfriend had punched his face, though the accuser was not injured.

Domestic violence: Kayla M. Carr, 27, of North Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after her boyfriend alleged Carr had punched and slapped his face, then scratched his arms during a heated argument.

Dec. 20

Arrests: While responding to a suspicious vehicle at a business in the 100 block of Trumbull Avenue, authorities charged 37-year-old Melissa S. Seekins of South Randolph Street, Girard, with drug abuse and criminal trespassing, as well as 48-year-old David A. Digman of Portland Avenue, Youngstown, with criminal trespassing. Seekins, who also was wanted on a Mahoning County warrant, admitted having on her person about 1 gram of suspected cocaine, a report showed.

Harassment: A Taylor Avenue man said his former girlfriend sent him 95 unwanted text messages during a two-day period.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant home in the 300 block of Plymouth Avenue, possibly through a rear window, then cut and removed about $2,500 worth of copper piping from the basement.

Theft: A man noticed a $200 iPad device missing from his West Wilson Avenue residence.

Dec. 21

Attempted burglary: A Forsythe Avenue woman discovered damage to her garage door’s frame, presumably done when someone had tried to enter.

Burglary: To a residence in the 900 block of Beechwood Avenue, apparently through a screen door. A $250 handgun was missing from a drawer.

Dec. 22

Theft: A woman reported a variety of prescription medications missing from her home in the 500 block of North Avenue.

LIBERTY

Dec. 17

Arrest: Police received information about someone possibly asleep in a truck on Ravine Street before they charged Stephen A. Rivers, 22, of Boardman Boulevard, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired. Rivers had a 0.118 blood-alcohol content, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.

Identity theft: A Youngstown woman discovered someone without permission had used her identity to obtain money for loans from a Belmont Avenue cash-advance business.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive resulted in 20-year-old Carina L. Ayala’s arrest on a drug-abuse charge. Ayala, of Woodland Avenue, Campbell, had a small quantity of suspected marijuana in a tin-foil wrapper, police alleged.

Theft: A Bristol, Va., man and others with him reportedly left Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., without paying their $90 food bill.

Identity theft: A Mount Everett Drive woman told police she received a warning on a credit report that indicated someone in North Carolina had opened a cable account with her personal information.

Dec. 18

Arrest: Authorities responded to a fight in the 300 block of Church Hill Road before arresting Ashley L. Yauger of East Prospect Street, Girard. The 21-year-old Yauger was wanted on a Niles Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: A Youngstown woman realized her purse was missing while shopping at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Drugs: A suspicious car in the 200 block of Colonial Drive caught officers’ attention before they charged 18-year-old Mark J. Barill with drug abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after alleging the Brunswick, Ohio, man had a bag of suspected marijuana with a 16-year-old Girard girl in the vehicle. Also, a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor was pending against a 19-year-old Girard man.

Dec. 19

Theft: A man reportedly pumped $40 worth of gasoline into a Ford Mustang before leaving a Speedway station, 4210 Belmont Ave., without paying.

Theft: A Hubbard woman reported her wallet stolen from her purse as she shopped at a Belmont Avenue grocery store.

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown woman alleged a city man, 21, with whom she had attended high school pointed a handgun at her in the Liberty Plaza parking lot.

Theft: The front license plate was removed from a vehicle in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard.

Dec. 21

Identity theft: A Belmont Avenue man learned that someone in Brooklyn, N.Y., had used his debit card to make $167 worth of fraudulent purchases.

Theft: A self-employed construction worker told authorities that while in the 5000 block of West Liberty Street, someone stole from his two work trucks more than $26,000 worth of merchandise that included construction equipment, a rifle and a cellphone.

Attempted auto theft: A couple reported that while returning to their Liberty Avenue residence, they saw two people in a flatbed tow truck removing their Ford Taurus from the driveway. One of the homeowners blocked the driveway to prevent the truck from leaving and, while questioning the driver and the passenger, the accusers realized neither had paperwork to show they had permission to retrieve the vehicle, a police report said.

HUBBARD

Dec. 16

Recovered property: A woman reported having found a set of keys in Harding Park off state Route 616.

Dec. 17

Arrest: Officers took into custody 26-year-old Ashley L. Caulton at her East Liberty Street residence. The Hubbard woman was wanted on a warrant accusing her of failing to appear for a pretrial hearing.

Aggravated menacing: Soon after responding to a disturbance near a state Route 304 restaurant, police charged 54-year-old Harold D. Lowe of Borden Street, Youngstown, with aggravated menacing after a Boardman woman alleged Lowe had followed her to the eatery, swore at the accuser and spit in her face.

Arrest: Police answered a call pertaining to an argument and a woman possibly waving a handgun before charging 32-year-old Jennifer M. Richards-Goldberg of School Street, Hubbard, with disorderly conduct. Richards-Goldberg, who had a pellet gun, got out of a cruiser and ran toward her husband to continue the argument and tirade, authorities said.

Dec. 21

Theft: A West Park Avenue woman discovered a $40 laser Christmas light missing from her yard.

Identity fraud: A James Place woman found out her stolen debit card had been used to make $138 worth of unauthorized purchases at a local department store.

CANFIELD

Dec. 7

Theft: A report of theft via a telephone scam was reported at a home in the 30 block of Jade Circle.

Missing package: A package delivered by Fed Ex Express was reported missing at a home in the 90 block of Chapel Lane. An investigation of the delivery is being conducted by Fed Ex.

Dec. 8

Fraudulent charges: A report of fraudulent charges on a credit card was made at a home in the 100 block of Laurel Hills Lane. An investigation is being conducted by the credit-card company.

Dec. 9

Drug abuse: Police arrested Micquel Angel, 48, of Mathews Road, Boardman, on a drug-abuse charge and on two counts of child endangering.

AUSTINTOWN

Dec. 12

Theft: A checkbook was taken at an apartment in the 4000 block of Westchester Drive. Additional checks were later reported missing.

Aggravated menacing: A suspicious letter was reported at a home in the 4000 block of Walnut Trace.

Lost or stolen property: A cellphone was reported missing from Kmart, 4475 Mahoning Ave.

Dec. 13

Criminal damaging: An ongoing issue with criminal damaging was reported at a home in the 1000 block of Woodland Trace. A 2011 Ford was damaged.

Recovered vehicle: A stolen vehicle was towed and held for Struthers police at the Austintown Inn, 5431 Seventy-Six Drive.

Domestic violence: Police arrested Melinda Dowd, 47, of Laurie Drive on a domestic-violence charge.

Sex offense: Police arrested Latroy McMillan, 22, of Duke Avenue Southeast, Warren, on charges of soliciting and possession of criminal tools. The arrest was made at the California Palms and Suites, 1051 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Animal cruelty: A dog was left in a hallway with no food or water at an apartment in the 500 block of South Raccoon Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Shawna Tarver, 25, of Boston Avenue, Youngstown, on a warrant for complicity to theft at JCPenney, 6000 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: Papers were taken from a home in the 6000 block of Fairview Road.

Dec. 14

Sex offense: Police arrested Tashayla Glenn, 22, of Selma Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of soliciting sex and possession of criminal tools.

Warrant: Police arrested Brandon Lightbody, 24, of Millet Avenue, Youngstown, on a warrant for failure to appear on a domestic-violence charge.

Assault: Co-workers were involved in an assault at Marc’s, 4755 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: Speakers were stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Breezewood Drive.

Theft: A man took merchandise and a sweeper and fled in a van from Big Lots, 4241 Kirk Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Jason Senvisky, 42, of Cannon Road on a Struthers warrant for criminal damaging at a home on Acatello Place in Poland.

Dec. 15

Aggravated menacing: An unidentified white man approached a victim with a knife and cut the airline to a truck after assaulting the victim at Pilot Oil, 1150 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Aggravated menacing: A threatening text message was reported at a home in the 200 block of Ohltown Road.

Aggravated menacing: Threatening text messages were reported at a home in the 4000 block of Nottingham Drive.

Fraud: An unauthorized account was opened for a person living in a home in the 100 block of Forest Hill Drive.

Theft: Bad checks were passed at a home in the 3000 block of Starwick Drive.

Theft: Prescriptions were stolen from Rite Aid, 5488 Mahoning Ave.

Dec. 16

Warrant: Police arrested Ean Jameson, 19, of Arden Boulevard, Boardman, on a warrant for failure to appear on a criminal-trespassing charge.

Theft: Police arrested Martin Shaffer, 56, of Brunswick Road, Youngstown, on a theft charge. Police accused him of the theft of $79.49 in merchandise from Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.

Dec. 17

Breaking and entering: A garage was entered, and tools were taken from a home in the 300 block of Forest Hill Drive.

Burglary: An ex-boyfriend used the victim’s car and took televisions and an Xbox from a home in the 100 block of Westminster Avenue and pawned them.

Theft: A bottle of pills was missing from Advanced Podiatry,1570 S. Canfield-Niles Road.

Theft: Police issued a summons to Amanda Gerlach, 32, of Osborn Avenue, Youngstown, on a theft charge. Police accused her of taking $32.30 in merchandise at Walmart.

Theft: A suspect took a bottle of vodka from Kmart.

Theft: Two fraudulent charges were made to a bank card of a person who lives at a home in the 5000 block of Pinecrest Avenue.

Theft: Police arrested Marissa Vars, 27, of Mehlo Lane, Youngstown, and Megan Stanley, 29, of Illinois Avenue, McDonald, on theft charges. Police accused them of taking $11.94 in merchandise from Walmart.

Dec. 18

Fraud: Unauthorized charges were reported at a home in the 20 block of Jonathan Lane.

Telecommunications harassment: Unwanted and threatening text messages were reported by a person who lives at a home in the 50 block of Carnegie Avenue.
