POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Dec. 16

Theft: A Struthers Road woman reported a narcotics patch stolen.

Dec. 19

Menacing: A Struthers woman told police she had been threatened while in the 2900 block of Palmarie Drive.

BOARDMAN

Dec. 16

Arrest: After having responded to a vehicular crash near South Avenue and Meadow Lane, officers charged Linda D. Russell of Holbrook Road, Poland, with operating a vehicle impaired. The 62-year-old Russell had a 0.151 blood-alcohol content, which is nearly double Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report showed.

Domestic violence: Laurie L. Catullo, 44, of Tudor Lane, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her boyfriend alleged that during an argument about their relationship, Catullo had struck his chest area and hit him once in the mouth.

Theft: Sherri L. Metzger, 46, of Geneva Avenue, Struthers, was charged with stealing two packages of self-stick tile and a gift card with a $17 balance from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.

Arrest: Authorities received a tip that a man was trying to break into vehicles at Southern Park Mall before charging 41-year-old Mark J. Robbins of East Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, with carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Robbins, who ran from then struggled with police in the mall, had a pocket knife and a suspected crack-cocaine pipe; he also admitted having stolen clothing from Macy’s in the mall, a report showed.

Dec. 17

Arrest: Authorities received information that a motorist had driven off the road near Shields Road and Sheban Drive, then charged Dominic M. Barbero, 40, of Denver Drive, Poland, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Auto theft: A 2000 Buick LeSabre was stolen in the 4400 block of South Avenue.

Identity theft: Police were dispatched to Verizon Wireless, 650 Boardman-Poland Road, regarding a man with a phony driver’s license before charging Blake E. Wheeler, 28, of Detroit with one fourth-degree felony count of identity theft and a misdemeanor theft count. A sales associate noticed that an account to which he wanted to add three phone lines contained a notification indicating the account belonged to a victim of fraud in New Mexico; also, Wheeler had an altered Arkansas driver’s license, a report stated.

Theft: A man reportedly stole a $299 tool set from Home Depot before likely leaving in a white work van.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 7400 block of West Boulevard struck a car’s windshield and hood with eggs.

Theft: A worker for a Lockwood Boulevard salon noticed a wallet had been removed from her purse while she was at work.

Theft/drugs: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 resulted in the arrest of Isabella M. Iures, 23, of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, on a felony heroin-possession charge, along with one misdemeanor count each of theft as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments after clothing had been stolen from Macy’s. Also, a pipe with burn marks and a syringe were found, police alleged.

Theft: Ashley M. Cooper, 23, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, was charged in the theft of $387 worth of clothing from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Dec. 18

Arrest: After responding to a vehicular crash in the 100 block of Homestead Drive, police charged 42-year-old Steven M. Clark with operating a vehicle impaired. Clark, who listed Youngstown addresses on Erie Street and Canfield Road, had a 0.102 blood-alcohol content, a report said.

Possible theft: An Austintown woman reported her wallet lost or stolen while she shopped at a Doral Drive big-box store.

Truck theft: A 2007 Chevrolet Silverado truck was stolen at a business in the 60 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A man in the 1200 block of Boardman-Poland Road reported a $500 salt-spreading machine had been removed from his truck.

Truck theft: A 2004 Ford truck that belongs to a Los Angeles company was stolen in the 700 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Harassment: A South Schenley Avenue woman said she received four such calls and several unwanted text messages.

Domestic violence: David T. Hartman, 47, of West Boulevard, Boardman, was charged after his girlfriend alleged Hartman had tossed a coffee cup and a lamp toward the accuser, narrowly missing her, during an argument that apparently started when he became upset that a TV was too loud.

Theft: A Poland woman told officers a package containing 13 items was stolen after she had dropped it off at a store in the 100 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Assault: A Moyer Avenue man alleged two neighbors had shoved him when he tried to talk to them about their dog.

Theft: A Hudson Drive woman discovered her purse was missing from her car.

Theft: A man reportedly stole $28 worth of items, including a tube of toothpaste and a stick of deodorant, from Walgreens Pharmacy, 7295 Market St.

Dec. 19

Theft: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail booked 28-year-old Kenneth T. Price of Lee Avenue, Youngstown, on a theft charge related to a June 22 shoplifting situation at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. Taken was about $164 worth of merchandise.

Theft/drugs: Jaclyn K. Miller, 38, and Robert M. Sudimak, 49, both of Idora Avenue, Youngstown, were charged with stealing $498 worth of clothing from Macy’s. Also during the traffic stop near Market Street, 44-year-old Richard S. Cummings of Wolosyn Circle, Boardman, faced two misdemeanor drug charges. In addition, Sudimak was wanted on two theft warrants.

Vehicle theft: A 2002 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen in the 200 block of Wildwood Drive.

Assault: Police responded to a fight in the 7400 block of West Boulevard, where a woman alleged a friend had wrapped his arm around her neck. The accuser was not injured, however.

Burglary: To a residence in the 1000 block of Zander Drive through the garage. A $400 flat-screen TV was taken.

Theft: A woman in her early 20s reportedly stole ice cream and a pair of socks from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Misuse of a credit card: An Austintown man in the 1200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road realized his credit card had been stolen and later used to make nearly $600 worth of fraudulent charges.

Theft: Robert M. Sudimak, 49, of Idora Avenue, Youngstown, was charged, accused of having stolen $229 worth of steaks from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Dec. 20

Theft: Police at Boardman Area Court on Market Street picked up 41-year-old Earlene Williams on a theft charge. Williams, of Lakewood Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of stealing antifreeze as well as various health and beauty products May 24 from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Drugs/weapon: A traffic stop on Route 224 led to charges of carrying a concealed weapon as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments against 35-year-old Thomas M. Weidner of Rush Boulevard, Youngstown, when, police alleged, Weidner had two pocket knives. In addition, he had two syringes, a spoon with burn marks common in drug use, a digital scale and cotton swabs, a report said.

Theft: Daron N. Little of Madison Street, Campbell, was charged with theft and criminal trespassing after three pairs of men’s jeans valued at $188 were stolen from J.C. Penney in Southern Park Mall. Little, 50, also was in violation of a criminal-trespassing warning he had been issued before, authorities alleged.

Intimidation: The owner of a Bev Road cleaning service alleged a man had threatened him regarding an unpaid bill to the company.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit, a computer tablet and miscellaneous power tools were taken from a Karago Avenue business, for an estimated $1,000 loss.

Theft: A Newton Falls man reported his elderly mother had $650 stolen from her while she shopped at a store in the 100 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Harassment: A manager with an East Western Reserve Road gas station told officers he received such calls that also contained implied threats.

Theft: A Woodview Avenue man reported over-the-counter medications, compact discs and other items missing from his vehicle.

Vandalism: The owner of a Market Street real-estate business saw that a $5,300 sign in the front parking lot was cracked and had a large hole.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 500 block of Boardman-Poland Road used a key to do an estimated $300 in damage to a car’s driver’s-side door.

Theft: A man reportedly stole three $35 empty half-barrel kegs from behind Blue Wolf Tavern, 1295 Boardman-Canfield Road.
