Police arrest 2 in shoplifting case

Township police arrested a man and woman on shoplifting charges Wednesday. According to the report, the man had a crack pipe in his coat pocket.

Police accuse Suzanne Henry, 30, of Leavittsburg, and Brandon Binion, 28, of Warren, of taking $490 in merchandise, including a tablet and several video games, from Kohl’s at 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

They were detained by an employee until police arrived. After their arrest, the police conducted a search during which they found Binion in possession of wire cutters and the crack pipe.

Henry is charged with theft. Binion is charged with theft, possessing criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Armed robber hits Farmers National

A robber armed with a semiautomatic pistol stole a minimal amount of cash from Farmers National Bank on Main Street about 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

The robber entered the bank and showed a teller a pistol and demanded cash before fleeing on foot, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The suspect is described as a blond-haired white male, between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing between 160 and 185 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Niles Police Department.

Drugs, cash stolen

A man told police a stripper he only knows as “Cinnamon” stole prescription drugs valued at $1,000 and $100 in cash from his apartment, according to a report.

The man appeared at Boardman Police Department on Monday. He told officers he spent the evening with Cinnamon at his Market Street apartment sometime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 10. The drugs and cash were in the pocket of his shorts when he went to bed at 3 a.m., but both were missing when he awoke at 8 a.m., along with Cinnamon.

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology will be closed Sunday and Jan. 1. The remainder of the holiday season will follow normal hours.

The center, at 11 W. Federal St., downtown, is open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests are invited to explore late every Wednesday when it will stay open until 8 p.m. New sensory-art sessions will take place every Wednesday night through the end of January from 5 to 7 p.m.

OH WOW! is selling buttons for the area’s only family-friendly New Year’s celebration called First Night in Youngstown. The WOW! Pals will be open as part of the celebration Dec. 31. Visitors with a button can explore beginning at 4 p.m. until it is time for fireworks at 9 p.m.

Sock drive for vets

Shepherd of the Valley had a sock drive to support the Trumbull County Council of the American Legion. Each year, the American Legion distributes socks during the holidays to veterans living in local nursing facilities and veterans clinics.

Shepherd of the Valley collected more than 1,700 pairs of socks for veterans’ holiday gifts. They will have another sock drive for the legion in July.
