Dogsmartz Unleashed had its open house for the new Poland location on Nov. 12 which also was a kick-off for the Youngstown Pet Food Drive.

Jenny Falvey, owner of Dogsmartz Unleased, has had more than 25 years of experience working with dogs. The facility is a full training facility including obedience training, puppy classes and behavior work. The training is positive training creating a positive experience for the dogs.

“We welcome every dog. We never turn a dog away,” said Falvey.

People who attended the open house were welcome to bring their own dogs to check out the facility. Those who came were asked to bring a pet food item or any other pet necessity to donate to the Youngstown Pet Food Drive officially starting Nov. 15.

Adoptable dogs from Legacy Dog Rescue were at the open house for guests and their dogs to play with.

“We are trying to beat all the other RescueMe Ohio places; Cleveland, Toledo, Akron and Columbus,” said Kate Monroe, organizer of the food drive.

The food drive benefits Legacy Dog Rescue and their rescue efforts. Those who donate also have a chance of winning a custom art painting from A Dying Art Company, Ltd.

“The pounds are all full, so the need for these kinds of things are huge. Winter is really tough for families so we want to make sure that nobody wants to try to make a hard decision and lose their pet,” said Monroe.

There are four places to drop off supplies: Dar’s Dirty Dogs in Canfield, OM Yoga in Hubbard, Warren Harley Davidson and Dogsmartz Unleashed.
