New bridge opens in Greenville

GREENVILLE, PA.

The new bridge carrying North Race Street over Little Shenango River here opened to traffic Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced. The road had been closed since late June when replacement work started on the 95-year-old, 125-foot-long structurally deficient concrete arch bridge.

The project called for construction of a new two-span, adjacent box-beam bridge, along with paved roadway approaches, new concrete bridge approach slabs and updated drainage, guiderails, signs and pavement markings.

Final paving and other work will be completed in the spring. The contract cost was $2,359,794. Federal funds will pay 80 percent, the state will pay 15 percent; the local match is 5 percent. The contractor was Carmen Paliotta Contracting Inc. of South Park, Pa.
