Poland Dobbins third-grade students performed their second annual Veterans Day concert on Nov. 10 at Poland Seminary High School.

The concert was “A Musical Salute to our Veterans,” and was under the direction of Dean Wilson and Dana Venesky, third-grade choir instructors, and Nick Olesko, PSHS Concert Choir director. The students sang various patriotic songs to honor veterans.

For Venesky the Veterans Day Concert is something she looks forward to doing every year. Venesky was previously enlisted in the Air Force and is currently serving in the Army.

“I think it’s very important to instill the patriotic feeling into the kids as they’re young and they can keep it when they get older. It’s something that stays with them” said Venesky.

The students practiced for a month, but met once a week. All together the students only had six or seven rehearsals together before their final performance. Once special surprise was when students from PSHS Concert Choir joined the third-grade students on stage. The third-graders never practiced with the high school students before singing with them on stage.

While practicing for the performance, the students learned about the all of the military branches. They learn about the responsibilities of each branch and what they do.

The Veterans Day concert is one of the favorites of the Poland faculty. It is one of the concerts that is looked forward to most during the school year.

“I am very pleased with the students, they did an amazing job,” said Venesky.
