Canfield schools getting new buses

Staff report

CANFIELD

The Canfield school board approved the purchase of four new buses and accepted donations made to the district.

Two of the buses will be ready for use in January. The board members anticipate the second pair of buses will be ready before the end of the school year.

The buses cost $357,626, and were purchased from Myers Equipment in Canfield, which won a public bid to sell them.

The new buses will replace four of the district’s older buses, which will be retired or sold.

The board also accepted donations made to the district.

Craig Olson, board president, said between July 2015 and June 2016, the district received $157,856.36 in donations. Since July, the school has received $77,000 in donations.

A group of students representing the Canfield High School student council reported to board members the high school was the largest area donor to the Salvation Army’s holiday Angel Tree tag program.

The program helps to provide holiday gifts for the less fortunate.

The board also promoted a pair of upcoming fundraisers. The inaugural Cardinal Chili Cook Off will take place Jan. 7, and the Taste of Canfield will take place Jan. 21.
