5 tips to help you keep your New Year's resolution
Are you making a New Year’s resolution? Here are five tips to help you keep it, courtesy of certified life coach Gretchen Hydo:
v Set SMART goals: Successful goals have five main components. They are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. A good example of a SMART goal is: I will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8-9 a.m. for 20 minutes to build my endurance for a relay race I am participating in.
v Define your Why: Oftentimes, people set a goal because it sounds good. They want the result, but they don’t necessarily want to have to do the work that it takes to get there. When you define your Why, your reason for wanting to make a change, you will be more likely to achieve it.
v Visualize: To be successful in reaching your goal, it’s important to visualize yourself on each step of the journey. While the end goal is important, knowing the steps you will have to take along the way to reach it are paramount to your success.
v Take baby steps: When goals are too big, they become overwhelming. People often have many smaller goals that they need to hit in order to reach their ultimate goal.
v Get support: Breaking habits and patterns isn’t easy. It takes more than will power to do things differently. Make sure that you get support to reach the finish line, whether from a goal-setting group or an accountability partner.

Oprah beefs up Weight Watchers
NEW YORK
Oprah Winfrey’s loss is Weight Watchers’ gain.
The former talk-show host, who bought a nearly 10 percent stake in the weight-loss company last year, sent shares soaring Thursday after saying in a new ad that she’s lost more than 40 pounds on the plan, all while eating pasta and tacos.
Shedding pounds is Winfrey’s financial gain as well as Weight Watchers’.
The media mogul spent about $43.2 million in October 2015 for 6.4 million shares. On Thursday, that stake was worth about $77 million, as its shares rose 15 percent to $12.12 in early trading.
Queen, husband off to country home
LONDON
Queen Elizabeth II, 90, and her husband, Prince Philip, 95, are on their way to their country estate to celebrate Christmas after the couple delayed their trip for a day due to illness.
Royal officials said Wednesday that both the queen and Philip were suffering from heavy colds and had to call off their train trip to Sandringham, the queen’s private estate in the Norfolk countryside, 110 miles north of London. The royal family traditionally gathers at Sandringham each Christmas and spends the festive season there.
The couple appeared to have recovered somewhat Thursday, with officials confirming their departure from Buckingham Palace in London.
