YOUNGSTOWN

Police said an East Wood Street apartment where a couple was arrested Monday morning for domestic violence bore the marks of a major fight.

Reports said the apartment was covered with dried blood and broken dishes as well as a shopping cart that had a bloody, broken, dish inside.

Arrested on charges of domestic violence were Willie James Hill, 55, and his 52-year-old wife, Terri Hill. Both are expected to be arraigned in municipal court today.

The charge against Willie Hill is a felony because police found two previous domestic-violence convictions against him, including one this year. On Oct. 27, he pleaded no contest to a charge of misdemeanor domestic violence against his wife in municipal court, was found guilty, and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with credit for 46 served.

He was also placed on probation, and his arrest would violate that probation.

The charge against his wife is a misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

If Willie Hill is found guilty of a probation violation, he could be sentenced to serve the remaining 90 days of his sentence.

Police were called to the apartment about 7:35 a.m. Monday by a person who said they could hear a woman hollering. Reports said when they knocked on the door, Willie Hill opened it, and he had cuts and dried blood all over his upper body.

Willie Hill told police he and his wife were watching the Sunday night football game when they began arguing, and she broke several plates over his head, reports said. Reports said the two had been arguing throughout the night.

Reports said Terri Hill told police she had stayed away from her husband since his arrest and conviction but went to visit him Sunday evening, and the two started arguing. She told police he attacked her first, and hit her in the head with a pair of pliers, which were found with blood spots on them, reports said.

Police determined both of them had been fighting, and both were taken to the Mahoning County jail, but the nurse there refused to admit them because of their injuries. They were then taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries then taken back to the jail.
