“Passengers,” the new sci-fi movie starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, opens today in theaters. Here are five facts about the film, according to IMDB.com:

v Most liked: The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2007 Blacklist, a list of the “most liked” unmade scripts of the year.

v Early male lead: Keanu Reeves was attached to the lead male role in the film, but dropped out. Chris Pratt was eventually cast instead.

v Early female lead: Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams and Emily Blunt were all, at different times, cast in the lead female role in the film, but dropped out during development. Jennifer Lawrence was eventually cast instead.

Schumer buys back family farm for dad

Amy Schumer has given her father an early holiday gift by buying back the farm her family once owned.

Schumer posted a screengrab on Instagram on Monday of her delivering the news to her father on a video call.

She also posted a video of herself as a child walking through a cornfield on the farm.

She added in the caption, “We lost the farm when we lost everything else. But today I got to buy it back for him.”

Schumer didn’t say where the farm is located.

The comedian told The New York Times in 2013 that her family went bankrupt when she was 9.

Yoga class will raise cash for food bank

The Yoga Room, 815 Youngstown-Warren Road, will have a donation-based yoga class on Sunday from 10 to 11:15 a.m.

All proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Non-perishable foods as well as monetary donations will be accepted.

TV priest, founder of Wordnet, dies

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

The Rev. Michael Manning, a priest who for decades brought Catholic teachings into people’s homes via a Southern California television ministry, has died.

The Diocese of San Bernardino says Manning died Dec. 14 due to complications from cancer.

He was 75.

In 1978, Manning founded Wordnet Productions, a nonprofit media company that produced more than a thousand TV programs from its San Bernardino studio.

Several of his shows, including “The Word in the World,” were syndicated nationally by the Trinity Broadcasting Network.
