Salem Historical Society gift shop, 239 S. Lundy Ave., has a variety of Christmas ideas for the history buff or reader on your shopping list, including books written by local authors. The store is open Wednesday and Thursday mornings this week for last minute shopping.
The list of authors and books include Daniel E. Smith, “She’ll Cross an Ocean…If You Will;” Tim Ginther, “Living Life Forward;” Richard Theiss, “Surprise Surprise;” Scott Shingleton, “Story of Frog Town;” Mary Beth Shivers, “Q is for Quakers;” Dale Shaffer, many of his 28 books of local history; Don Mathews, “My Carriage” (story of the building of Salem’s first automobile in 1900; Judy Lennington, her latest “The Inn Keeper;” Robert Shuck, “The Shuck Luck;” Rosemarie Sulea Cardoso, “The Romanians of Salem Ohio – 1900-2000;” Connie Alexander, “His Strength in Me;” Mitzi Beach, “Boomer Smarts, Boomer Power;” David Hunter, “Love Those Quakers – the Road to Columbus;” Sheila Bachmeir, “Wisdom from the Woods;” William Ward, “Salem Country Club - the first 100 Years,” Paul Hobe, “Dixie Odyssey” and Karen Biery, with all five of her books including her latest based on stories of Alliance’s Fairmount Children’s Home. Volume 1 is available of Newspaper Abstracts of the Salem Republican, 1857 to 1865, compiled by Dorothy Yakubek.
Also for sale is the historical society’s 2017 calendar celebrating the society’s 70th anniversary with color photographs by David Shivers.
