Vet to be awarded overdue medal

WARREN

Army Vietnam War veteran William Rutledge of Canfield will receive an early Christmas gift when he is presented the Combat Infantryman Badge more than 40 years overdue by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown.

Brown, D-Ohio, will present the medal during a ceremony at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the Trumbull County Veteran Services office at 253 E. Market St.

Rutledge, an Army infantryman who served in Vietnam, was released from the Army in 1970 but was never awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge he earned because of a lack of documentation. Sen. Brown’s staff, along with Trumbull County Veterans Services, helped secure the badge for Rutledge.

Ohio veterans and the family members of deceased veterans may request military records and medals by contacting Sen. Brown’s Cleveland office at 216-522-7272 or by visiting the “Constituent Services” section of Brown’s website at brown.senate.gov.
