It’s time to consider a new airport close to Boardman
I’ve lived all over the country in places smaller and more economically disadvantaged than Youngstown, yet they all have great airports.
We have the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, but that’s inconvenient and inadequate for most travelers. Youngstown needs to build an airport closer to Boardman where most of the population is. Now people travel to Pittsburgh or Cleveland to fly.
Why can’t federal and state funds be sought to build an airport along Market Street, where there’s plenty of land? An airport would revitalize Youngstown and Market Street.
Youngstown is optimally located for shipping throughout the country, and with an airport we might attract UPS, Amazon or Federal Express distribution centers.
The U.S. population is growing, and people need affordable housing, and Youngstown offers that. All Youngstown needs is some investments and jobs, and an airport would provide that. You could turn the regional airport over to the Air Force Reserve to expand its operations. We have to think bigger if we’re going to move this city forward.

Trump remains a divider
I am appalled that President-elect Donald Trump has not changed his Make America (White Again) attitude.
Every article that mentions Trump appears to focus on race and white supremacy. He has a one-track mind.
Is this what the citizens of this country are going to let this tyrant do?
If this were President Barack Obama, he probably would have been impeached by now.
I never thought I would see this country go so far awry. How can we as Americans stand by and accept what’s going on?
All I can do is ask God to intervene and bring us back to normal.

Dedicated poll workers made ’16 election success
As we reflect on one of the smoothest presidential elections in recent memory, I want to thank everyone who was involved in this success, beginning with the poll workers who answered the call to work on the frontlines of our democracy.
We also owe a debt of gratitude to the many Ohio businesses, charities and other entities who encouraged their employees to staff the polls. Together, you helped to ensure that voters had a great Election Day experience, despite the pre-election hype regarding possible election issues that never happened. We could not have done it without you.
I hope those who have served as poll workers return, and I encourage anyone interested in becoming one to get more information and to sign up at www.DayforDemocracy.com.
Once again, to the more than 35,000 poll workers who served on Nov. 8, thank you. You took your place on the front lines of democracy and played an indispensable role in helping me and the 88 county boards of elections run another smooth election.
