NILES

A 350-foot section of state Route 46 (South Main Street) between Salt Springs Road and McKees Lane will be reduced to one lane for three weeks beginning Monday during replacement of major water system valves, the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District has announced.

Two-way traffic will be maintained by temporary traffic signals. Traffic delays are expected.

Judge seeks 4th term

WARREN

Judge Terry Ivanchak of Warren Municipal Court will seek his fourth six-year term in 2017. He was first elected in 2000.

He sits on several committees at the Ohio Judicial College that include traffic law and procedure, criminal law and court technology. He is president of the Northeast Ohio Municipal Judges Association and president of the Warren Lion’s Club, according to a news release.

Warren Municipal Court serves Warren city and Howland, Champion and Warren townships.

Judge Ivanchak, of Howland, is a lifelong Trumbull County resident. He graduated in 1971 from Niles McKinley High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio and his law degree from Ohio Northern University.

AT&T program

The AT&T store, 5412 Youngstown Warren Road, presented the New Tools Against Distracted Driving for Icy Holiday Travel program this week.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was in attendance, revealing new videos and printed materials urging drivers to avoid smart-phone distractions behind the wheel.

The videos that were shown are four 30-second public service announcements that were developed from concepts submitted by a half-dozen high-school students around the state, including one from McKenzie Bradfield of Jackson-Milton High School in Mahoning County. Bank robbery suspect WARREN

Warren Police Department assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland police and the FBI in apprehending a Cleveland man in a house on Paige Avenue Northeast here who is accused of robbing a Cleveland bank.

The Trumbull County 911 center was notified at 4:46 p.m. Thursday that a blue Ford Explorer was headed toward the county on U.S. Route 422 and its occupant had been running from police for 45 minutes.

The vehicle continued on Parkman Road into Warren, avoiding spike strips near the Route 5 bypass that were intended to disable the car’s tires.

According to Cleveland.com, Fred G. Correa was taken into custody after entering the Paige Avenue house.

Money was recovered behind a house in the 600 block of Washington Street, according to radio traffic from the 911 center.

Search for robber

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are looking for a man who robbed Dollar General at 2023 Market St. Friday. Witnesses said a man with a handgun entered the store at about 7:20 p.m. No one was injured. Police said late Friday it was unclear if the gunman took any money or merchandise.

Zoning board appointee

LIBERTY

Trustees voted this week to appoint Frederick Coombs to the township zoning board for a term ending in December 2019. Coombs will fill a seat vacated due to the retirement of John Lyden. Zoning board members earn $20 per meeting.
