Youngstown Junior League meeting

« Canfield Neighbors

The Junior League of Youngstown had its first meeting of the year at the Canfield library.

The meeting prepared members for the upcoming league year and events. League events consist of leadership training by the Association of Junior League (AJLI) Fall Leadership Conference in Chicago and a regional training in Akron with the Junior Leagues of Akron, Cleveland, Stark County, Toledo and Youngstown for active members in November.

Vicki Clark presented a workshop on preventing burnout and stress management. Anna Masi, Marketing Chair, also shared information about the 291 Photo Project to capture what the League members do and who they are. There are 291 Leagues that are part of the AJLI.

Junior League members also participated in a Done In A Day (DIAD) project for Making Kids Count. Colleen Eisenbraun from Making Kids Count spoke about the services the organization provides for foster children in three counties. JLY members completed eight fleece blankets for Making Kids Count. Also, four members volunteered to help Habitat for Humanity for the nineteenth annual Day of Caring offered by the United Way. Members completed a task of moving 450 foam boards from a horizontal position to a vertical position to make room for more foam boards. Members also completed two paint projects in front of Restore. Junior League members that teamed up together for this event were Heather Elder, Debra Hartig, Anna Masi and Kim Urig.

Since its founding in 1901 by social activist Mary Harriman, The Junior League has evolved into one of the oldest, largest and most effective women’s volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing more than 150,000 women in the 291 Leagues in four countries. The Junior League of Youngstown is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
