Cops seek help in finding mom, son
YOUNGSTOWN
City police are asking the public’s help in finding what appears to be a runaway teenage mother who has an infant son with her. As of Thursday night, mom and baby had not been found, police said.
Police said Nahela Brown, 16, of East Judson Avenue, left with her 20-month-old son, Thyaff Brown, on Tuesday after an argument with her mother, who is the infant’s legal guardian, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
The teen, who left the house with diapers, clothing and other supplies, was last seen at the Mahoning County High School on Tuesday. Nahela is 4 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds.
Police ask anyone with information about the whereabouts of the two to call police at 330-742-8950 or 743-7978.
Sebring man gets 4 years in drug case
YOUNGSTOWN
A Sebring man has been sentenced to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty in a meth-making case.
Darrell Williams, 49, of West Indiana Avenue, drew the sentence Thursday from Judge Shirley J. Christian of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Williams pleaded guilty Monday to illegal drug manufacture and illegal possession of chemicals for that purpose.
Police used a search warrant at Williams’ home this summer and found meth-making materials.
Event set Sunday to register bone marrow
HUBBARD
A “Be the Match” registry Sunday will include free screenings for bone-marrow donation. The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Hubbard City Administration building, 220 W. Liberty St.
Those between the ages of 18 and 44 are invited to be screened. There will also be a raffle, refreshments and family-friendly activities.
The Hubbard High School “Sonic Screwdrivers” Robotics team and Rotary Interact Club are sponsoring the event in memory of former Hubbard High School teacher Amy Beth Ramey, who died of leukemia in April at age 39.
