Poland United Methodist Church had children and adults dressed in costumes lined up in the parking lot ready to trunk or treat during the annual event on Oct. 30. More than 50 church members and other organizations decorated the trunks of their cars to get into the Halloween spirit. Some people decorated their cars in specific themes, while others used items like cobwebs, pumpkins and ghosts. Options for children with food allergies were passed out by some of the church members. After people went trunk or treating, they could pick out a small pumpkin to take home and get some hot chocolate, a hot dog and popcorn.

“The reason we do trunk or treat is to give the kids a safe place to trick or treat,” said Becca Simon, Christian Education Director. The event brought in more than 200 guests last year and PUMC was expecting an even larger turnout this year. The church members were asked to bring one bag of candy and when they ran out, the church had extra bags to hand out.

“We are trying to make it as free and as fun as possible. We’ve had over 150 people so far,” said Simon.

Trunk or treat gives an opportunity for the community to spend time together while participating in fall fun. Poland United Methodist Church likes to host events around the holidays as a chance for families and friends to celebrate together.
