Oct. 23 marked the first day of a series of Sunday celebrations of the Christ Church Presbyterian 65 Year Jubilee.

Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 1933 Canfield Road in Youngstown, ended its worship service with a releasing of balloons. Attached to the balloons were post cards from members of the congregation. They hope to see most of them returned.

Christ Church Presbyterian was started by the Reverend Paul Coleman, who began the church by knocking on approximately 2,000 area doors. On Nov. 4, 1961, the church had its first Sunday services in the small chapel that is located directly on the corner of Hopkins and Canfield Roads and is only a part of the larger church. There were 177 charter members of the church, of which one, Ray Bradich, was present during last Sunday’s service.

The Jubilee will last six Sundays and feature history and stories each week, as well a special event. Everyone is welcome to attend and share in this celebration.

On Oct. 30, there was a fall craft event and bake sale with a special fall or Christmas photo opportunity for individuals and families.

The Nov. 6 service will be in the Chapel where it all began with special music. The Youngstown Connection will be present during worship on Nov. 13 and host a fundraising Spaghetti Dinner. Christ Church will close out the series of Sunday celebrations on Nov. 20.
