Teens face multiple charges following car theft in Campbell

Staff report

CAMPBELL

Two teens are facing multiple charges after police say they stole a station wagon Sunday.

A woman left the car unlocked with the engine running in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree on McCartney Road.

About 40 minutes after the woman reported the car missing, a police officer saw a car struggling to get up a hill near Hickory Street. Four people then got out of the car and started running, the report states.

Two officers attempted to follow the suspects who had split up. An officer caught up with two of the teenagers near McCartney Road. The report states that the boys continued running after the officer yelled for them to stop and that one of the boys denied stealing a car before admitting that he did it.

Police said they found a grinder with suspected marijuana residue on it inside the stolen car.

The boys, who are 14 and 15, will face charges of theft, possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and obstructing justice through the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

Two of the four suspects eluded police.
