BOARDMAN

Police continue their investigation of an attempted robbery at a township gym Friday morning.

Police said Monday that Anthony Anderson, 30, of Woodview Avenue, Boardman, is now in stable condition, but unconscious at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after being shot in the head while purportedly attempting to rob a gym employee.

Officers responded to the shooting at 3 Thirty Elite Sports and Performance Center, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd. A man attempted to rob the employee and two witnesses about 1 a.m., according to a police report. The employee said he shot the man in the head after exchanging gunfire.

Officers found $10,000 worth of suspected heroin, $230 in cash and marijuana on Anderson. Police said they are hoping Anderson recovers enough so they can get a clearer narrative of what happened.
