SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR VFW Post 9571 hosted its open house Oct. 15 with the theme “Welcome Home” to let veterans know their service is appreciated. More than 50 veterans received a “Welcome Home” with a handshake and mementos. Each veteran was given a token with a picture of the Statue of Liberty and the San Francisco Bridge with the inscription, “VFW Welcomes You Home.” On the reverse was inscribed “Service-Sacrifice, We Will Not Forget” and “You took Freedom to Distant Lands and Gave Hope to a World Oppressed.” The second memento was a pin of a casket draped with the American flag inscribed with “In God’s Hands Now” as a reminder of those who sacrificed their lives. Some of those attending the event, in front from left, are Larry Spencer, Homer Marsh, Dan King, Bernard Check and Jim Duffett. In row two are Bill Garritano, Keith August, Melvin Megown, John Craig, Jim Tornicasa and Dan Turk.
