YOUNGSTOWN

Green Youngstown’s Keep America Beautiful board selected 13 students’ artwork to be included in the 2017 Youngstown Recycling Calendar.

Hundreds of entries were received and 13 kindergarten through 12th-grade students in Youngstown’s city, charter and private schools were chosen.

An awards ceremony and pizza party in their honor took place Friday at the Oakhill Renaissance Place auditorium, where the winners each received a certificate of their accomplishment and a gift card.

Youngstown Mayor John A. McNally, Youngstown and Mahoning County government officials and representatives from Republic Services, the free curbside recycling providers, attended the event.

Calendars are distributed free of charge to Mahoning County residents to help them keep track of their curbside recycling pickup days, as well as to inform them of major recycling events for other household items such as appliances, electronics, leaves, Christmas trees, tires and litter cleanup.

The calendar also showcases volunteer groups’ efforts to make Youngstown beautiful.

The calendars can be picked up in the mayor’s office in city hall, 26 S. Phelps St.; the Green Youngstown office, 20 Federal Place, 20 W. Federal St.; or at the Green Team office at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave.

The contest winners are: Justin Trammell, Tyonn Chatman, Milasia Lewis and Erick Nazario Lopez of Chaney High School; Natalie Matthews of Discovery Program at Kirkmere; Isayra Rodriquez and Elijah Carter of Harding Elementary; Cadence Arnold of Potential Development; Ebony Thompson of Summit Academy; Jayden Wilson-Clark and Yoailyn Reyes of William Holmes McGuffey Elementary; Kennedy Dawson of Youngstown Community School; and Madison Peek of Youngstown Early College.
