Austintown Elementary School hosted the second annual Fall Festival on Oct. 27 for the students.

The PTA hosts the event as an opportunity for the students to have fun after school. They come dressed in their Halloween costumes and spend time with friends they might not see during the school day. The students could participate in different games, get their faces painted by Guy Shively and enjoy refreshments.

The festival brought in 200-250 students from kindergarten to second grade. The students brought their siblings and other family members to enjoy the evening with them.

“It’s becoming bigger and better every year,” said PTA member and coordinator April McGahagan.

Several local businesses in Austintown donated prizes, food and other items to help make the festival a success.

The students participated in a costume contest and a pumpkin decorating contest. Pumpkins that were selected to win received a blue first-place ribbon. There were six students selected for the costume contest, three runner-ups and a third, second and first place. Each student who placed received a prize.

There was a concessions stand and a bake sale for guests who wanted to make a purchase and help the PTA raise money to host more events for the students.

The PTA is hoping the success of the Fall Festival will continue as the event continues to occur.
