SWEET AND SALTY FRITO SNACK MIX

by ELLEN APPELMAN

1101/2-ounce bag of Fritos

2cups Rice Chex cereal

2cups pretzel twists

11/2cups nuts

1cup light brown sugar, packed

1stick butter

1/2cup light corn syrup

1cup mini M&Ms

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl combine Fritos, Rice Chex, pretzels and nuts. Set aside. In a small saucepan melt the brown sugar, butter and corn syrup over medium heat. Let the mixture come to a boil for four minutes without stirring. Remove the pan from heat and pour over Frito mixture. Stir carefully to coat evenly. Transfer mix to a large roasting pan and bake for 8 minutes. Stir mix, then bake an additional 8 minutes. Transfer mixture to a wax paper- lined counter and let cool completely before breaking into large clumps. When cooled sprinkle M&Ms over mix. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week ... if it lasts that long.
