Florida Atlantic stuns Buckeyes in overtime
columbus
Adonis Filer notched a season-high 23 points and Florida Atlantic handed Ohio State their first home loss of the season, 79-77 in overtime.
A mishandled pass by Marc Loving gave FAU a last-shot opportunity, and Nick Rutherford banked in a layup for the lead with one second left in overtime.
The Buckeyes led by a point at halftime, and held an 11-point lead midway through the second half, but late turnovers and missed shots allowed the Owls to capture the win.
Jeantal Cylla and Frank Booker added 15 points apiece, while Ronald Delph grabbed 10 rebounds for the Owls (3-5).
Trevor Thompson scored 16 points before fouling out for the Buckeyes (7-2). JaQuan Lyle had 10 points and nine assists.
Florida Atlantic depended on 3-point shots for most of the night, going 10 of 25 from the field. OSU struggled to find its range, and finished 4 of 20 from deep.
Heisman winner Salaam dead at 42
Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam was found dead Monday night in a Boulder park less than two miles from Folsom Field, where he carved his name into the University of Colorado record books as one of the greatest players in the program’s history.
The Boulder County coroner’s office was still investigating the cause of the death of the 42-year-old Salaam, who won the Heisman in 1994. The body of the one-time running back was found at Eben G. Fine Park in Boulder.
Police say foul play was not suspected.
Salaam’s mother, Khalada, told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that police said the suspect killed himself. “They said they found a note and would share that with us when we get there,” Salaam’s mother said.
Dave Plati, associate athletic director at Colorado and a close friend of Salaam’s, said the former Buffaloes star never let on that he was hurting: “When you were around him he was just the same old Rashaan. You know, effervescent, jolly, go-lucky, smiling all the time, doing things for other people.”

oxon hill, md.
All-Star ace Chris Sale is joining the reloading Boston Red Sox, leaving behind his shredded reputation with the Chicago White Sox.
Boston acquired Sale on Tuesday for a package of four prospects, including high-priced Yoan Moncada.
Sale was a top trade target at the winter meetings and the AL East champion Red Sox were getting him instead of Washington, which also pursued.
A few hours earlier, Boston got prime setup man Tyler Thornburg from Milwaukee. After that deal was announced, without tipping his hand, Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said: “We’re trying to win now, as you can see.”
Boston acquired Sale for minor league pitchers Michael Kopech and Victor Diaz, outfielder Luis Basabe and Moncada, a third baseman.
Arsenal finish top of Champions group
BASEL, Switzerland
Arsenal easily beat Basel 4-1 to finish a surprise winner of its Champions League group on Tuesday, powered by a hat trick from little-used forward Lucas Perez.
Getting a rare start, the Spanish forward gave Arsenal a three-goal lead by the 47th minute as the visitors coasted to victory.
Arsenal unexpectedly finished atop Group A, rising above Paris Saint-Germain which drew 2-2 at home to winless Ludogorets Razgrad.
As a group winner, Arsenal is seeded in Monday’s draw for the Round of 16, hoping to avoid a seventh straight exit at that stage.
