Detectives are investigating after a man was shot in the calf about 3:40 a.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Hillman Street.
The 19-year-old man told police he had left his girlfriend’s house when a man approached him, shot him, grabbed his cellphone and ran away.
Reports said police found two shell casings near the victim, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Project PASS results
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown City School District and Youngstown State University leaders will have a joint news conference at 9 a.m. today, to share results of Project PASS, Penguin Assistants for Student Success.
Project PASS is a program involving YSU Beeghly College of Education students who tutor YCSD second-and third-grade students to improve younger students’ reading skills. The news conference will be hosted in the library at McGuffey Elementary School, 310 S. Schenley Ave.
Cops net drug arrest

A Delaware Avenue man is in the Mahoning County jail on $12,500 bond after his arraignment Monday in municipal court on drug charges.
Police officers pulled over Deondray Robinson, 29, about 3:25 p.m. Saturday at Rosedale and Warren avenues after a records check found a vehicle he was driving was stolen.
When he pulled over, reports said Robinson ran away and was caught after a short foot chase at Roselawn and Evergreen avenues.
Inside the car, police found a digital scale and a bag of suspected crack cocaine. He is charged with possession of cocaine, obstructing official business and receiving stolen property. He will have a preliminary hearing Monday.
Anger over pork chop

A resident of a McGuffey Road group home is in the Mahoning County jail on $5,000 bond after police say she ransacked the home and set fire to a bathroom after she was upset that another resident she was playing cards with got an extra pork chop.
Miracle Wilford, 19, was arraigned before Judge Robert Milich on a charge of aggravated arson. Reports said police were called to the East Side home about 8:35 p.m. Sunday for a report of Wilford acting up. When officers arrived they found damage inside, including a Christmas tree that was knocked over.
Wilford set fire to the bathroom while police were there, reports said, and an officer extinguished it.
Woman charged
AUSTINTOWN
A township woman faces a felonious-assault charge after purportedly throwing a knife at someone.
Charged is Cherice DiProsperis, 29, of Carnegie Avenue.
Officers responded to her home Saturday afternoon for a report that DiProsperis had thrown a knife at a male victim before fleeing the scene, according to a police report. Before throwing the knife, DiProsperis reportedly threatened to harm herself and made nonlife-threatening cuts to her throat and arms.
The victim was not injured.
