The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership will conduct its free Cookies with Santa event from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in its offices at 1325 Fifth Ave.

The event will feature cookies, candy, music, raffles, giveaways and a coloring contest.

Sub teacher job fair

CANFIELD

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments will host a regional substitute teacher job fair at Joyce Brooks Center inside the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (any field), and be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening. On-site interviews will be conducted and participants are encouraged to bring resumes. Registration is suggested, but not required; call 877-977-9499.

Tressel to speak

Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel will share inspiring stories and messages about success and leadership at these high schools Monday: Austintown Fitch, 8 a.m.; Howland, 9:30; and Hubbard, 1 p.m.

Library gift-wrap

The Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and Junior Friends of PLYMC will conduct a Harry Potter-themed holiday gift-wrapping fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at Barnes and Noble book store, Boardman.

Items will be wrapped for donations. If you mention that you would like to help the Friends of PLYMC, a percentage of your purchases will go to Friends. You are invited to wear a Harry Potter T-shirt or costume.

Event for farmers

“Farm Financial Decision-Making in Tough Years – Taxes & More” is the topic for a lunch-and-learn event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Ohio State University Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St. Presenter David Marrison will share ways to get through the tough years of farming, including using tax laws to your benefit.

LIBERTY

The driver of a car that crashed into a utility pole Saturday on Tibbetts Wick Road near Naylor Lloyd Road was taken to the hospital. The crash, which nearly split the pole in half and caused loss of power and phone service to some customers in the area, occurred around 12:30 p.m., reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner. The condition of the driver is unknown. No charges have yet been filed.
