When Dolores and Albert Falgiani of Boardman died, all of their possessions – real estate, furniture, artwork, collectibles – went to the cause closest to their hearts: animal charity.

Angels for Animals hopes to put the proceeds from the sale of some of those items to good use. Many of the Falgianis’ donations – paintings, whimsical Toby pitchers, a glass coffee table and more – are featured in this year’s holiday decorations, antiques, collectibles and jewelry sale, which kicks off this weekend.

“This is probably the nicest sale we’ve had for awhile,” said Angels founder and volunteer Diane Less. “I think it’s the highest-quality selection of items we’ve had for quite some time.”

Admission to the sale is free of charge. It takes place at Angels for Animals’ Andrews Hall, 4750 W. South Range Road.

The sale, which runs this weekend and the next two weekends, features everything from vintage jewelry, to antique furniture, to collectible items such as dish sets and glassware. All of the proceeds from the sale, which Angels has been hosting for the last 15 years, goes toward the care of animals.

Angels for Animals operates an animal shelter, coordinates an animal foster network, and spays and neuters thousands of cats and dogs each year, among other services. The organization aims to reduce the animal population.

“What makes this organization is unique is that our thing is reducing the population of animals so that the future is a lot better. People will ask all the time, ‘Are we a no-kill shelter?’ and the answer is: We are a no-birth shelter,” said Less. “When you fix an animal, it’s like saving a thousand animals.”

The holiday sale is Angels’ biggest fundraiser of the year that takes place at the shelter. It’s similar to the group’s April garage sale at the Canfield Fairgrounds, an even larger sale.

The antiques and collectibles sale earns Angels for Animals anywhere from $6,000 to $28,000, Less said. The funds help with all of the usual programs, and also will help the group get closer to making a new dream come: the Angel Wing.

Angels for Animals is in the process of fundraising to build a new facility that will allow it to double the number of cats and dogs it neuters each year, and provide 24/7 veterinary clinic services.

With about $4.5 million of a needed $10 million, Less said Angels hopes to break ground on the new facility in 2018.

The holiday sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Next weekend, the sale takes place from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. On Saturday, Dec. 17, the sale is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and all items are half-price.
