A township business is out more than $1,000 after falling victim to a scam.
Police were sent to Dick Adgate Florist on Mahoning Avenue on Wednesday in reference to a scam, according to a police report.
The business owner told police he had gotten a call from someone claiming to be an Ohio Edison representative who told him his bill was overdue. The victim asked to speak with a manager who also told him his account was overdue. The caller reportedly instructed the victim to purchase three prepaid cards. The victim told police he bought a total of $1,180 worth of prepaid cards and gave the caller the card numbers over the phone.

Church Women United of the Youngstown Area will host a Human Rights Day celebration Dec. 10 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road. The theme is “Experiencing Blessings at the Table.”
Registration and breakfast will be at 9:30 a.m., with the program to start at 10. Reservations are due by Monday. A $10 donation for the program and breakfast by A La Carte Catering is requested. The Community Initiative to Reduce Violence is hosting a Certification for Qualification of Employment clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St.
This effort is in collaboration with Home for Good Re-Entry Resource Referral Center of ACTION (Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods), Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership and United Returning Citizens.
This CQE certificate has the ability to remove some of the barriers to employment that many people may have faced as a result of negative decision-making and spending time in jail or prison.

WARREN
Said S. Abu, 24, of Columbus, was sentenced to five years’ probation but no jail time Wednesday after pleading guilty earlier to forgery and complicity to identity fraud, both low-level felonies.
The hearing was in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. He is among the five men arrested on the Ohio Turnpike in Braceville on Nov. 12, 2015, and accused of making fake identification and credit cards.
Choir concert at Fitch High School

Fitch High School’s choir will host its annual Christmas concert – “A Holiday to Remember “ – at 3 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for students and free for veterans.
