Davidson, Bailey, Koullias among All-Ohio selections
Staff report
Several of the Mahoning Valley’s most dynamic offensive players and stalwart defenders were among All-Ohio selections in Division V and VI on Wednesday.
The Associated Press released the teams, which were selected by a state panel of sportswriters.
The majority of the selections were in Division VI, including Columbiana quarterback Mitch Davidson, Brookfield QB Xavier Bailey and Campbell running back Yianni Koullias. All are seniors.
Davidson and Bailey were second-team selections, with the Brookfield QB making the team as an offensive back.
Koullias was a third-team selection at running back.
The Springfield senior linebacker duo of Zack Stouffer and Ethan Nezbeth made the second team in Division VI.
Lisbon senior linebacker Jason Thompson was a third-team pick in Division VI.
LaBrae senior wide receiver Tariq Drake was the area’s top selection in Division V, earning second-team status.
Two South Range senior defenders — lineman Nathan Daniszewski and linebacker Peyton Remish — made the third team in Division V.
Crestview defensive lineman Jordan Murphy also was a third-team selection in Division VI.
The Division VII All-Ohio team is set to be released late this afternoon.
Warren JFK, one of the Valley’s Division VII teams, is the last area team still playing. The Eagles (13-1) will meet Minster (9-4) in the state final Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
The winner of Ohio’s Mr. Football Award also will be announced today. Warren Harding senior QB Lynn Bowden is projected as a leading candidate for the honor.
