Texas man arraigned on charges in two Trumbull County communities

Jason B. Utley of Houston was arraigned in two local courts Wednesday on 12 charges related to incidents Nov. 18 in Howland and Vienna that resulted in an officer firing his gun.

Utley, 43, was video- arraigned in Girard Municipal Court on eight charges related to Vienna and in Warren Municipal Court on four charges related to Howland.

He remains in Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.

The charges include felonious assault, failure to comply and drunken driving in Vienna and drunken driving and failure to stop after an accident in Howland.

Utley was taken to jail Tuesday after being released from St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Police said Utley was involved in a crash on East Market Street near Howland High School at 6:45 p.m., then fled to Vienna, where a Vienna officer had to leap out of the way to avoid being hit.

He was arrested after he crashed his car into a ditch near Centennial Drive and Warren Sharon Road. Utley was not hit by the shot the officer fired.
