Pedestrian and driver ID’d in Tuesday Boardman fatal accident

Staff report

BOARDMAN

Officials have revealed the identity of the pedestrian killed Tuesday in an accident at Southern Park Mall.

Judy Dailey, 65, of Berlin Center died from blunt-force injuries to the head, forensic pathologist Joseph Ohr of the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.

Dailey was struck by a pickup truck near JCPenney in the mall parking lot about 11:30 a.m.

The truck was driven by a 23-year-old township resident, police said. His wife told The Vindicator her husband was hospitalized after he suffered a seizure while on his way to work as a field technician for the American Environmental Group Ltd. That seizure preceded the accident, she said.

American Environmental Group is based in Richfield in Summit County. Its services include solid-waste management, environmental remediation and general industrial companies, according to its website. The company is also a part of Tetra Tech Inc.

According to Ohr’s report, after Dailey was struck by the truck, “she died within minutes.”

Toxicology results are pending, Ohr said.

The cause of an accident is still under investigation by township police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
