MV Lifelong Learning plans programs

Mahoning Valley Lifelong Learning Institute plans YoChautauqua2016 on Thursday.

Modeled on the adult education movement of the 19th and early 20th century, YoChatauqua2016 is the first of its kind for the area. It will be an in-depth day of education and entertainment focused on life in the 1800s. In collaboration with Mahoning Valley Historical Society, the MVLLI event will feature music, speakers, performers and an off-site tour of a historical home.

The schedule follows. All events, except for the museum tour, will be at the Gelhaar Center, 1216 Fifth Ave.

Life in the Western Reserve, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., will explore the lives of the settlers of the Mahoning Valley from 1796 to 1830.

Arms Family Museum Tour, 4 to 5 p.m., at the Arms Museum, 648 Wick Ave., will be a guided tour of the home of Olive A. and Wilford P. Arms and an understanding of life in the Mahoning Valley for different people at different times.

Lincoln’s Life as President of the United States, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Gerald A. Payn, presenter and historian, will portray events from Lincoln’s first presidential campaign to the fateful night at Ford’s Theater.

Classical music of the 1800s, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Harmony String Quartet will perform.
