A Crandall Avenue man is awaiting arraignment on a charge of felonious assault after police say he shot a man Monday in his home.

Derrick Logan, 52, is expected to be arraigned in municipal court after he was taken into custody at his home about 6:50 p.m. in the 700 block of Crandall Avenue.

Reports said police were called to the home for a shooting, and when they arrived, they found a man with a towel over a bullet wound in his leg and the towel and floor covered in blood.

Both men said they were arguing with each other. Police said both men also smelled heavily of alcohol, and officers found an empty beer bottle and a whiskey bottle inside the home near where the victim was shot.

The victim told police he was arguing with Logan when Logan went into another room and came back with a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and told the man to leave. The victim said the gun went off by accident.

Reports said Logan told police he tried to get the man to leave, and the man kept approaching him. Logan said he fired a warning shot at the man and that is when the victim was shot, reports said.

Logan is being held in the Mahoning County jail. Police took the gun as evidence. According to Vindicator files, it is the 100th gun seized by police this year.
