Elm Road remains closed after fatal accident

WARREN — A portion of Elm Road near Clermont Avenue Northeast has remained closed since this morning as a result of a single-car fatal car crash.

Warren police are investigating it, but they are not releasing the victim’s name until relatives have been notified.

The crash occurred on a curve near Clermont in which the car squarely hit a pine tree next to Warren Bible Methodist Church.

The driver, who was in his 70s, appeared to have died at the scene, Clermont Avenue resident Tim Reeves said. The victim was ejected from the car and was on the ground next to his car when Reeves got there, he said.

Reeves heard the crash around 9:30 a.m. and went to see if he could do anything to help, but the man appeared to have already died.

The car was badly damaged, and another neighbor said the car appeared to have been traveling very fast.
