Three board members skip Youngstown schools meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

Nearly half of the Youngstown Board of Education didn't attend a special meeting this afternoon.

Members Jackie Adair, Dario Hunter and Corrine Sanderson were absent.

Before the meeting, Sanderson told The Vindicator that she would not be attending the meeting because she said it was "illegal."

Sanderson said that she and Hunter called the special meeting last week and listed the items they wanted to discuss. She said Brenda Kimble, school board president, then sent out her own meeting announcement -- which didn't include the items the three absent members wanted to talk about.

Sanderson said that Kimble's announcement didn't follow proper procedure because she didn't sign it. "I'm gonna have no part of that," Sanderson said.

Kimble, after the meeting, pointed out that the whole board voted at last week's regular meeting to conduct a special meeting at 5 p.m. today. She said had the three members attended today's meeting, the issues they wanted to discuss would have been discussed.
