NILES

A Niles man suspected of shooting his female companion early Sunday was apprehended about 5 p.m. that day in the Fairmont/Marion counties area by West Virginia State Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

Niles police said Douglas Enlow, 53, of Battles Avenue, was arrested after his license plate number, broadcast by city police, was picked up by a license-plate reader on Interstate 79 in West Virginia.

Enlow is wanted in connection with the shooting of his female companion several times in the home they share in the 600 block of Battles. The victim, whose name police have not released, was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital where she underwent surgery.

Police released a picture of a car that they believed Enlow might be driving and its license-plate number to law-enforcement agencies asking them to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Police say Enlow could be returned to Ohio as soon as today to face charges in the shooting.

Immediately after the shooting, Niles police believed Enlow might be in the Niles, Akron or North Lima areas and asked anyone who saw the car to call 911.
