Correction

An editorial published Friday titled “Niles must move quickly, responsibly to fix City Hall” erred in criticizing city Auditor Giovanne Merlo. The editorial likened the city’s fall into fiscal emergency to comments that Merlo made about finding funding to repair City Hall. Merlo said “there was no point” in exploring financing options for the repairs now. The editorial failed to give the full context of Merlo’s remark. The auditor meant that there is no need for such planning until the full scope and cost of the repairs are determined. In fact, Merlo has long established strong relationships with state officials in working cooperatively to move the city out of fiscal emergency.
