Ribbon-cutting Sept. 7 for Little Free Library

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rocky Ridge Neighborhood Association will host a ribbon-cutting for its first neighborhood Little Free Library at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at a community garden at 138 S. Hazelwood Ave.

The event will celebrate the library and introduce partners in the project. Appetizers prepared by the Recipes of Youngstown cookbook team will be served.

The little library will be filled with novels, comic books, and cookbooks for neighbors to exchange or to read at the community garden.

Local artisan Chisel.Me.Timbers By Davey Jones designed and built the wood structure modeled after the Neighbors’ Mill Creek Maple Sugar House.

Project funding was provided by the Rotary Club of Youngstown. The club plans to build and install 34 little libraries in the Mahoning Valley. The installation, with registration number 42663, joins 40,000 other little libraries across the world.

The little library location will house reserve copies of The Recipes of Youngstown cookbooks for the community to review on site. Guests are also invited to buy their own copy of the cookbooks from a Mahoning Valley Historical Society tent at the event.

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host a Pop-up Library event in the garden, and individuals can register for a library card, learn about library services, check out materials, and view the design of the PLYMC’s new Michael Kusalaba Branch.
