Rookie Gary Sanchez kept up his torrid stretch with his seventh home run in the past nine games, and Masahiro Tanaka won his fourth straight start in New York’s victory over Seattle. Tanaka (11-4) threw seven shutout innings and got the better of the Mariners and former Japan League teammate Hisashi Iwakuma (14-9). The Yankees won their third straight road series.

TORONTO

Albert Pujols moved into sole possession of 10th place on baseball’s all-time list by hitting his 584th home run, Matt Shoemaker pitched six shutout innings and Los Angeles snapped an 11-game road losing streak by beating Toronto. Pujols finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Pujols hit a sacrifice fly in the second and singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Rays 4, Red Sox 3, 11 innings

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

David Ortiz hit his 30th home run in the first inning, but Tampa Bay came back from a three-run deficit to beat Boston and prevent the Red Sox from taking sole possession of first place in the AL East. Luke Maile doubled with two out in the 11th and scored after Red Sox pitcher Heath Hembree (4-1) dropped a throw to first base on Kevin Kiermaier’s grounder.

Tigers 9, Twins 4

MINNEAPOLIS

Miguel Cabrera had four hits, including his 28th home run, and Justin Upton added a three-run homer as Detroit beat Minnesota. Matt Boyd (5-2) tied his career-high with seven strikeouts in six innings to win his fifth straight decision. Cabrera had his fifth four-hit game of the season and was a triple shy of the cycle.

LATE TUESDAY

Athletics 9, Indians 1

OAKLAND, CALIF.

Khris Davis hit a three-run homer and scored three times, and Oakland beat Cleveland to snap a three-game losing streak. Davis had struck out in six consecutive at-bats before hitting his 33rd home run of the season off starter Danny Salazar. That’s the most by an Oakland player since Jack Cust hit 33 in 2008. Danny Valencia added two hits in his first game back in the A’s lineup.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Cubs 6, Padres 3

SAN DIEGO

Major league ERA leader Kyle Hendricks pitched six effective innings and Chicago finished off a three-game sweep, beating San Diego. Hendricks (12-7) gave up two runs and four hits, striking out eight and leaving with a 2.19 ERA. He has allowed no more than three earned runs in 17 straight starts. Aroldis Chapman pitched the ninth for his 29th save in 32 chances.

Brewers 7, Rockies 1

MILWAUKEE

Ryan Braun hit two home runs and Milwaukee tied a season high with its fourth straight victory, beating Colorado. Braun hit a solo drive off Tyler Anderson (4-5) in the fourth inning. He connected for his 24th homer, a two-run shot, off Chad Qualls in a four-run seventh. Colorado’s Nolan Arenado hit his NL-leading 34th homer in the first.

INTERLEAGUE

Rangers 6, Reds 5

CINCINNATI

Yu Darvish hit only the second homer by a Rangers pitcher and Adrian Beltre hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning for a victory over Cincinnati and a split of their two-game interleague series. Darvish’s solo shot to center field was one of three homers by the Rangers, who wasted a three-run lead before rallying late. Beltre’s double off Blake Wood (5-2) snapped a 5-5 tie.

Marlins 3, Royals 0

MIAMI

Jose Fernandez pitched seven innings and appeared to avoid a serious injury when he tweaked his right leg on his final pitch, helping Miami beat Kansas City to snap the Royals’ nine-game winning streak. Fernandez (13-7) pulled up after striking out Christian Colon to end the seventh, and rubbed his right knee before limping to the dugout.

Orioles 10, Nationals 8

WASHINGTON

Baltimore closer Zach Britton saw his remarkable streak of 43 straight games without allowing an earned run end, then shut down a ninth-inning rally to help the Orioles hold off Washington. The Nationals scored five times in the ninth.

Phillies 5, White Sox 3

CHICAGO

Tommy Joseph and Cesar Hernandez homered to back Jerod Eickhoff, and struggling Philadelphia beat Chicago. Philadelphia showed some spark at the plate and on the mound after getting outscored a combined 18-1 over the previous two games against St. Louis and Chicago.
