Undercover buys lead to drug arrest

NILES

Police say a series of undercover buys of suspected crack cocaine led to a raid and arrest of Marlan Williams Sr. at his Bellair Court apartment Tuesday. Capt. Jay Holland, acting police chief, said officers recovered small quantities of suspected crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, cash and prescription medications in the name of another individual.

“The place was a mess, and we needed the [Ohio State] highway patrol canine unit to sniff out the drugs,” Holland said.

The arrest marked the first by the department’s Special Response Team and Special Investigation Unit since both were restored after the recent recall of laid-off police officers, Holland said. The teams’ anti-drug activities had been suspended during the layoffs. Williams, 24, is charged with trafficking in cocaine and is in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of bond.
